One fundamental underpinning of the Shorey Consulting practice is a focus
on customer priorities. How the customer thinks and purchases drives the
way industries operate. It turns out that this customer perspective has
been absent from most public policy programs, even those with the goal of
changing consumer behavior.
Everett Shorey of Shorey Consulting and Tom Eckman
of the Northwest Power
and Conservation Council have analyzed past programs designed to
influence consumer appliance purchases. Our analysis and conclusions are
contained in a paper published by the Pew Center
on Global Climate Change. The paper is available for downloading at the Pew Center web
site or from Shorey Consulting.
Lawrence J. Blanford, while President, Major
Appliance Division of Maytag Corporation, stated that this is the first
analysis he has seen bringing a consumer and business perspective to public
policy questions.
Our experience with the public policy analysis can help businesses:
- Understand the how
and what customers purchase and when those customers can be influenced
effectively
- Develop private
programs to increase market size or gain market share
- Influence the development
of public incentive programs affecting their products
